While Tara is no stranger to the courtroom and enjoys her trial work, her passion lies in helping families work towards creative and peaceful solutions whenever possible. Tara is trained and certified through Ambassadors of Reconciliation in both faith-based conflict coaching and mediation.  She is committed to helping her clients decide if mediation, settlement, or litigation is the best trajectory for their family law case.

Prior to forming Hatcher & Baez PLC in 2019, Tara started and managed her own family law firm, Tara Hatcher Law Firm, PLC, for over twelve years. She also served as a law clerk in the Chief Staff Attorney’s Office of the Virginia Supreme Court after earning her Juris Doctorate from the University of Richmond School of Law, with honors in 2001.  Tara graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1996, where she studied English and became certified to teach high school English.

Tara is a long-time member of Bon Air Baptist Church, where she currently serves on Church Council and as a leader and teacher in the church’s student/youth ministry. She has served as a door-greeter, women’s bible study leader, and Sunday school teacher, and was selected to train in the church’s Emerging Leader’s Program.

Most importantly, Tara is a devoted single mother to two teenage daughters, who keep her busy running between lacrosse, cheer, and dance team practices and games.  Tara’s oldest daughter is heading to Virginia Tech, so “Hokie Mom” is now proudly on Tara’s resume.
